The turmoil of hopelessness entered the room. Fear of the unknown troubled my mind like a pendulum swinging. Was I doing what God had planned for me?Where was God? Why didn’t I have an abiding feeling of His promised peace? It was the year I proceeded to college to acquire unknown experiences hoping to discover my purpose in life. Sitting with an aching heart in the dark alone wishing for a feeling of peace. I craved harmony in my soul that I couldn’t find.

What is peace? Is it the absence of fear, worry or discouragement? I have since learned that peace has several different dynamics. There is peace with God that can only be obtained by clinging to Jesus–the Prince of Peace(Isaiah 9:6). This peace still remains even when you can’t feel that He is near. Even when sin blocks your sight and causes you to feel outcast. His grace remains. Why? Because He promised. (Deuteronomy 31:8)

When you have peace with the Lord it is easier to have peace in your interactions with others.  Our world is full of turmoil and chaos yet peace is something we all long to possess. Peace from circumstances or harm. Peace from war. The fact remains this world will never know true peace until the return of the King of Kings. So in the interim, those who are walking with the Saviour must stand firmly on God’s promises. One promise I love is from John 14:27 which says, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Or as I like to use this acronym…

Is fear and worry overtaking your heart? Are you eagerly pursuing the Prince of Peace so that you are not afraid or troubled? It isn’t easy, however,  Philippians 4 :7 gives this promise, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” May Jehovah Shalom the God of all true peace comfort your heart. If you are worried or scared may His true peace find you.
